During our recent trip to Argentina, I was particularly impressed by the large number of murals and other forms of street art, particularly in Buenos Aires and especially in the neighborhood where we stayed, San Telmo. Many of the murals were political in nature, although I was uncertain of the precise political context for much of it.
As it happens, calle Peru, the street on which our hotel was located, had a rich supply of such murals. The very first one that I noticed was this Peronista mural, down the street from our hotel:

This one (defaced by graffiti), further up calle Peru at the corner of calle Chile, honors left-wing journalist Rodolfo Walsh, who was murdered by the junta in the late 1970's.

And this one was even further north, beyond avenida Belgrano:
And here is one across the street from our hotel, next to Nacional, where we ate on our first night in Buenos Aires:

This musical mural went around a corner, as I recall on calle Balcarce

Further up the street were these decorations on stores: one an homage to the cartoon character Mafalda; as best as I understood it, these adorn decorating a shop where one of the characters in her comic strip worked:

Still further up the street was this very cool plant sculpture decorating a tango club:
And here are a few murals that adorned avenida San Juan, across from the cafe San Juan where we dined on our second evening in Buenos Aires:
